EDM ARMS -Actually started in 1990
Our journey began with a simple mission: to build 50 BMG Rifles. The first guns we made were bench rest type. And an exact copy of the McMillan 50 BMG Rifle. We made a couple hundered of those. But they had issues like a McMillan does. Broken handles, failures to eject etc. So began the jurney of the Windrunner. The Old Man wanted to chase the Army Solicitation at the time, and we did. We spent a lot of money on that one. But the War and other politics as usual, the solicitation was cancelled and the Army just took the Barrett M82 and gave up on a Bolt Action.
At the same time I built a Bigger version of a Savage Rifle, called the Warlock. Not like Wizards but as in a War Locking Breech (lock up). Made about 20 of those. But they were too Big. So we focused on tooling up the Windrunners. They went thru a lot of Magazine lock up changes and Bipods, I have Rifles with all the different changes thru the years in my Museum Safe.
Actually EDM ARMS started in 1990. I built a bunch of small caliber rifles in 308 with a Oval Receiver and Remington style Bolt and Trigger. I called it EDM ARMS, because I had a thriving Wire EDM Shop in Riverside, Ca. called Affordable EDM Inc. it just made sense. I still have a pretty Big Wire EDM Shop.
I couldn't save EDM ARMS when my father died. Business / Rifle sales were pretty bad back then. He died owing everyone so much money including me, I couldn't financially do it. I barely saved my shop and had to take a job in Phoenix. Vigilance Rifles Inc. is pretty solid, we don't borrow money and don't have high rents and mortgaged equipment. Were at over 4000 - 50 BMG Rifles built now. I count all of them, since I designed built all the Receivers for EDM ARMS.
