UXM
107 Caliber .50 Sniper Rifle
Description:
The
XM 107 .50 caliber sniper rifle is a non-developmental item (NDI)
joint service program, USSOCOM and the U.S. Army. The XM 107 will
include a removable companion optic to assist in identifying
and engaging man sized targets at 1000 Meters and vehicle targets at
1700 Meters. The MK211 caliber .50 multipurpose cartridge will be
used as the primary tactical round. Accessories include carrying
case, iron sights, bipod, magazine, sling, cleaning/maintenance kit.
Characteristics:
The
XM 107 will be employed by the U.S. Army, Joint Special Operations
Forces (SOF), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams and Infantry.
The XM 107 will be used to provide counter-sniper fire
with the advantage of stand-off and increased terminal effects when
opposing snipers armed with small caliber weapons. Attack various
materiel targets such as parked aircraft, radar sites, ammunition,
petroleum, and various thinned skinned materiel targets to include
lightly armored vehicles. The XM 107 will also be employed by Army
EOD teams on the battlefield by using the kinetic energy effects of
the
.50 caliber projectile to disrupt or detonate unexploded ordnance (UXO).
Operational
Justification:
The
increasing sophistication and enhanced lethality of U.S. and foreign
munitions has forced the EOD soldier to attempt remote procedures to
disrupt and dispose of UXOs on the battlefield. The technique
of Stand-Off Munitions Disruption (SMUD) is one method that has
proven successful in many instances. This technique allows the EOD
soldier to attack hazardous munitions outside the detection range of
the
fuze sensor and fragmentation effects of the UXO.
Basis
of Issue/Total Requirement:
Estimate
5 per EOD Company for a total TOE requirement of 298 systems.
Program
Funding:
Procurement
will be funded by PM Small Arms under the Soldier Enhancement
Program.
